Twelve months ago if we had named JAMIE CLARKE as our Quinn-Insurance UGAAWA Monthly Merit award winner, in many places the question ‘Jamie Who?’ would have been asked. That’s not the case any longer as the Crossmaglen Ranger has shot to prominence is a very short time.

He now collects the Monthly Merit Award for the second time in four months after first hitting the headlines in December 2010. This time Jamie (21) is honoured for his explosive display when helping Crossmaglen Rangers to again win the All-Ireland Club SFC title on St Patrick’s Day.

The flying No.10, who rocketed home a goal and three points against Roscommon and Connacht champions St Brigid’s, was really the man who pushed the Rangers over the finishing line.

“We had to step up to the plate to beat St Brigid’s,” reflected Jamie when collecting his award at a reception in Quinn’s Corner, Co Tyrone. “This award is a great honour and a bonus to winning the All-Ireland. It is nice to get personal recognition and it was nice to turn in a good performance at Croke Park.”

The UUJ undergraduate in Marketing is no stranger to personal awards. Apart from our December award, he has won three Man-of-the-Match trophies, including one for his display in the All-Ireland final.

He now gets the March Award ahead of Caolan Mooney, who gave two outstanding performances with St Colman’s in the MacRory Cup final and the All-Ireland semi-final, and Tyrone’s Kevin Hughes who starred in the NFL.

Grainne Kiernan, Sales Manager Quinn-Insurance Enniskillen, made the presentation of a UGAAWA Sports Voucher, an engraved Belleek Living vase, specially designed silver cuff links by Omeath jeweller Garrett Mallon and training gear from O’Neill’s International Sports to Jamie Clarke who will be a guest at the Ulster GAA Writers’ 24th annual banquet on November 18.
