Even after 28 years, the Ulster GAA Writers’ Association continues to produce new products and has just received a massive endorsement by way of a sponsorship deal as Quinn Industrial Products have signed up to back the Association, again.

Coming as it does on the cusp of the various Ulster Championships, the agreement is viewed as a major tool in further enhancing the profile of Gaelic games in the province and, indeed, beyond.

Quinn’s have, of course, been generous benefactors of the writers’ body in the past and this new sponsorship will lend an added dynamic to its work. The Association boasts members from all areas of the province and its monthly and annual awards, which honour excellence in the various codes under the GAA banner, continue to be held in high regard by players across the sporting spectrum.

UGAAWA chairman John Martin, in welcoming the new sponsorship initiative at a Press Reception in the Slieve Russell Hotel, predicts that it will further solidify the writers’ body in its bid to increase its membership and extend its role.

“Obviously we take considerable pride in the awards that we make on an ongoing basis and we know that these are treasured by the recipients. It’s sure happy days,” enthused Martin.

“The new sponsorship agreement with Quinn Industrial Holdings is a great source of encouragement to us and persuades us that we should explore other areas in which we can continue to make our presence felt. We are delighted and we look forward to enjoying a very harmonious and progressive relationship with the Company.”

Announcing the new sponsorship, former football Allstar Marty McGrath said: “Quinn’s are delighted to announce this sponsorship deal with the Ulster GAA Writers’ Association which strives to reward local talented GAA people in their chosen role.

The sponsorship by Quinn’s is an ongoing commitment to local associations that deliver positive contributions to our local sports teams plus men and women in local communities.

“While this sponsorship will certainly provide further stimulus for the writers, it will also add a dimension to their annual banquet and underpin their ongoing quest to provide an even better framework for top quality coverage of GAA activities at all levels via television, radio, local and national newspapers”

Ulster GAA President Marin McAviney also expressed his delight that the Quinn company has again joined up with the Ulster GAA Writers in their continuing efforts in promoting Gaelic Games.

“This news is sure to bring a smile to the faces of many people and, I hope, it secures a great future for the Ulster GAA Writers’ Association. The annual awards night is always a great event. I know a lot of work goes into that and anything I can do to enhance the occasion I will,” he promised.

Also in attendance was International Rules manager Joe Kernan who recalled that he enjoyed many a good weekend at the Annual GAA Writers’ Banquet and he stressed that it wasn’t necessary to win medals to collect a monthly or annual award.

“I warmly welcome this announcement,” he said, “The Quinn sponsorship sends out a good message for the future work of the Ulster GAA Writers.”

Cavan chairman Gerry Brady welcomed the assembled gathering to the Breffni County and the news of the new sponsorship deal.

The Quinn Products UGAAWA 28th annual banquet will be held at the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran on November 13. Group and individual bookings can be made from now.
